Akshaya Bhavan is a straightforward choice for anyone looking to enjoy traditional South Indian vegetarian cuisine in Iyyappanthangal, Chennai. As a combined restaurant and banquet hall, it caters well to families and groups, especially those who appreciate a spacious, air-conditioned dining area. The atmosphere is functional rather than flashy, with enough room to accommodate larger parties comfortably.

The menu here leans heavily on South Indian classics, including ghee dosa idli sambar and various kinds of dosas, alongside South Indian meals and mini meals that make it a reliable pick for breakfast or lunch. There are also North Indian options and some Indo-Chinese dishes like chilly parota and paneer fried rice, giving a modest variety for mixed groups. Dishes like mushroom biryani and paneer tikka offer alternatives but have received mixed feedback, suggesting the focus remains strongest on South Indian fare.

One notable aspect is the kid-friendly setting, aided by a small park just outside, which helps keep little ones entertained while adults settle in. Parking space is ample, easing the usual challenges in busy neighborhoods like Iyyappanthangal, making this a convenient stop for nearby residents and commuters.

The service can be uneven; while some visitors find the staff courteous and attentive, others have experienced delays and the need for reminders during meal service. Cleanliness is generally acceptable but could use improvements to match the fairly basic interiors.

For timing, mid-mornings and early afternoons seem best avoiding crowds and allowing for a relaxed meal without rush. It's particularly suited to those seeking a familiar South Indian breakfast or a casual lunch with family or friends, rather than a quick snack or late dinner.

Food is very good.. a/c hall was spacious and comfortable. The service was a bit slow and we had to keep reminding them to bring our orders. Car parking is available. There's also a small park outside the restaurant for the kids to play.

When we visited this place for the first time, it was for dinner. We had it in the A/C room. We had a mix of South Indian and North Indian meal! The second time, we visited this place to have our brunch. Only Dosa was available then. We had Mysore Masal, Plain dosa and Podi onion Uthappam. The serving lady was so cordial and the food was yummy. Not much of crowd when we visited!!

Services was very prompt. Cleanliness have to be improved. Taste of paneer tikka and chilly parota was excellent. Taste of Mushroom briyani was below average. Even Ayyanaar bhavan biryani is much better. It is just 600 m away of akshaya. Very accessible restaurant with very decent parking space. Just 200m away from ayyappanthangal bus depot. Overall it was an good exp @ akshaya.

Came here for lunch. The atmosphere and service is really good. Food was also good. There was ample car parking space. It's kid's friendly. But the prices were a little too high.
